Phương pháp ủ phân như sau:
+ Ủ truyền thống:
Sau khi có được nguồn nguyên liệu chính, có thể bổ sung thêm phân chuồng như trâu, bò, heo, gà, vịt, dê... Để hạn chế thất thoát đạm, cần bổ sung thêm khoảng 2 - 3% phân super. Ẩm độ tối ưu đống ủ là 50%. Để có nhiệt độ thích hợp, nên tạo đống phân ủ có kích thước khoảng 1,5 x 1,5 x 1,5 mét hoặc lớn hơn một chút. Nhiệt độ giữ tốt hơn khi đống phân được bao quanh bằng đất chất cao, đậy kín bằng bạt nylon chống mưa nắng.
Hoặc bà con có thể sử dụng phương pháp ủ bổ sung vi sinh:
Tác nhân làm phân hủy cellulose (sử dụng Trichoderma sp.) được trộn đều vào nguyên liệu là xác bã thực vật, rác thải, rơm rạ... để làm phân ủ. Có nhiều cách phối trộn hỗn hợp làm phân ủ:
- 3 phần rơm + 1 phần cỏ rác, lá xanh + 2 phần phân chuồng.
- 4 phần rơm + 2 phần phân chuồng (bò, trâu, gà...).
- 2 phần rơm hoặc cỏ khô + 2 phần xác cây họ đậu + 2 phần phân chuồng.
- 2 phần rơm + 3 phần cây xanh thuộc họ đậu (lá keo giậu, thân đậu xanh, đậu nành, cây cỏ hôi mọc bìa rừng...) + 2 phần phân chuồng.
Rơm rạ phải băm nhỏ, tưới nước cho ngấm ướt đều trước khi đem ủ, các loại xác bã thực vật phải băm nhỏ. Để ủ 1 m3 nguyên liệu theo các công thức trên cần bổ sung 5 kg super lân trộn đều, 1 kg men Trichoderma hòa với nước tưới đều vào đống ủ làm chất kích hoạt. Cách tiến hành ủ, kích thước khối ủ, nhiệt độ, ẩm độ... tương tự như cách ủ truyền thống nói trên.
Phân hữu cơ sinh học tự ủ theo phương pháp trên có thể bón 3 – 4 tấn/ha, bón kết hợp phân vô cơ tăng hiệu quả phân bón. Hỗn hợp này rất hiệu quả với cây trồng, đồng thời hạn chế thất thoát dinh dưỡng của phân hóa học.
Đây là một mô hình hay và hiệu quả cần được nhân rộng.
